Legal basis: Article 51a of the Foreigners Act (Zakon o tujcih, ZTuj-2), inserted by the 2025 amendment at Uradni list RS 2025-01-1285 and announced by the Ministry of the Interior on 21 November 2025. The ministry's own page sets out the income formula, the twelve non-extendable months, the six-month wait before reapplying and the immediate family reunification, and was read directly.

An official Ministry of the Interior announcement (gov.si, 21 Nov 2025) and the Official Gazette amendment inserting Art. 51a into the Foreigners Act (ZTuj-2, per Uradni list RS 2025-01-1285) confirm the digital nomad permit runs a non-extendable 12 months, with reapplication only possible after a 6-month gap. Art. 52(1) ZTuj-2 (read via secondary consolidated-text mirrors, since direct pisrs.si access failed) lists only seasonal work, posted workers, daily migrants and temporary protection as excluded from the 5-year permanent-residence calculation — digital nomads are not named. The No verdict therefore rests on the mandatory 6-month gap structurally breaking the continuity ZTuj-2 requires, which is inference from the permit's design, not an explicit statutory exclusion naming digital nomads.

Non-EU nationals only, and the work has to be for companies outside Slovenia. Applied for in person, at a Slovenian embassy or consulate if you are abroad, at any administrative unit if you are already lawfully in the country. Twelve months, not extendable: when it runs out you wait six months before asking for another one, though you may switch to a different permit type straight away. The unusual part is family - a digital nomad may bring family members immediately, with none of the waiting period the other permits impose.
