Portugal's D8 is open. Idealista's guide is not news
Idealista recirculated a 'Portugal D8 Digital Nomad Visa 2026: complete guide to income, tax & residency rules' piece. That is not a launch notice. Foreign Affairs already publishes the digital nomad residency checklist, and you can apply through a consular post today. We could not open Idealista behind a bot wall, so this page sticks to the ministry text.
What Foreign Affairs publishes
Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs keeps one English documentation page for national
residency visas:
Necessary documentation — Residency
on vistos.mne.gov.pt.
Under For the exercise of a professional activity done remotely: digital nomads it asks, on top of the general residency file, for:
- Subordinate work: a work contract, or a declaration by the employer confirming the labour link.
- Independent professional activity: a society contract, a contract of services provision, or a document attesting services provided to one or more entities.
- Proof of average monthly income for the last three months with a minimum value equivalent to four monthly minimum guaranty remunerations.
- A document attesting his fiscal residence.
It adds that means of subsistence for this ground must be read from a contract, a society contract or a service-provider contract, and that the consular post may request more. That block is a live checklist, not a 2026 announcement.
The Portugal page already marks the programme active.
Income is a multiple, not a euro figure on that page
The residency page prints the four-times rule. It does not print a euro amount next to it.
The 2026 wage that multiple sits on is elsewhere: the same site’s Means of subsistence page says the minimum monthly salary for 2026 is 920€, citing PCM Regulatory Decree n.º 139/2025 of 29 December. Neither that page nor the residency checklist writes “€3,680” as a labelled D8 floor. Four times 920€ is secondary arithmetic; our Portugal page grades the sourcing of that reading as high.
If a complete guide prints a single dollar or euro number without naming the RMMG multiple, it is paraphrasing, not quoting the residency heading.
“Tax” on the ministry page is a document, not a regime
Idealista’s headline promises tax rules. The digital nomad heading on the residency page asks for a document attesting fiscal residence. That is an application paper. The page does not name a Portuguese personal-income tax rate, a temporary non-habitual regime, or any incentive branded for digital nomads.
We do not invent one here. Tax treatment after you hold a residence permit is a different question from the consular file, and it is not answered on this documentation sheet.
Open, and where you file
The D8 residency route is live. You apply at a Portuguese consular post (or its external service provider) on the documents the MNE residency page lists; the visa is not filed on a Portuguese government portal. After entry, the residence permit itself is AIMA’s stage — see the steps on the Portugal page.
A March-dated Idealista “2026 complete guide” recirculating in October does not change that status. The novelty is in the secondary headline. The ministry checklist was already there.
If a consulate in your district is applying a different income reading than the four-times line on the residency page, that is that post’s practice until Foreign Affairs rewrites the sheet. If you see an official central notice we have missed, tell us.
Everything above is taken from the MNE Necessary documentation — Residency page and the Means of subsistence page, checked on 12 October 2026. Idealista’s article could not be opened.
The row behind this
Every figure this post relies on lives on a country page with its source and its confidence grade beside it. That is where it gets corrected, and where it stays current after the post stops being news.
