Cyprus's digital nomad visa is open. You can apply

Cyprus Inform recirculated a 'Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa in 2026' roundup. The Migration Department page that takes the applications is not a launch notice. The scheme is open, the cap is still 500, and the money test on that page is the one that counts.

What Migration publishes

The Migration Department of the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection keeps one English page for this status: Digital nomads and family members. It is dated 31 December 2025. It says the department is once again accepting applications under the “Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa” scheme, and that the maximum number of permits that can be granted remains at 500.

A shorter press release from 26 March 2025 already said the department accepts applications. That is a reopening of an existing scheme, not a 2026 invention. The Cyprus page already marks the programme active.

The legal ground the scheme page cites is two Council of Ministers decisions: 15 October 2021 (a ceiling of 100 residence permits) and 3 March 2022 (the ceiling raised to 500). The page does not say whether 500 is an annual reset or a running total. We do not invent that either.

Who the page says may apply

Non-EU and non-EEA nationals who can do their work location-independently through telecommunications technology, and who are either employed by a company registered abroad or self-employed offering services remotely for clients located abroad.

Then the money line, in the department’s own wording: they must prove stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3,500 after the deduction of contributions and taxes. That euro figure is the ministry’s. The page does not print a spouse or child uplift, and it does not print a savings requirement, so neither do we here. The Cyprus page converts the €3,500 bar into your currency.

Family members — a spouse or partner in a civil union, and underage children — may reside for the same period as the digital nomad. They need their own temporary residence permit. They do not have the right to be employed or to perform economic activity in Cyprus.

How you apply

In person at the department, not through an online portal. Within three months of arrival, the applicant submits the application and the required documents at the central offices of the Department in Nicosia. Someone who already legally resides in Cyprus under a different status may file there too. Applications may be submitted personally or through an authorised representative. Incomplete files are not accepted for consideration.

The page points at “the relevant document lists” rather than printing the list on this sheet, so we do not reconstruct one from a guide. Documents that do accompany the form must be officially translated and duly certified. Biometric data (photo and fingerprints, plus a signature) are captured for the permit; under-sixes give a photo only.

Fees the page prints:

Examination time is five to seven weeks.

How long it lasts, and the gap

A first temporary residence permit is valid for one year. On renewal it is issued with a validity of maximum two years. Renewals go to the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Nicosia, with the accompanying documents, at least one month before the permit expires.

That 1+2 cap is why the Cyprus page grades the permanent-residence pathway No: you cannot stay on this category long enough for the ordinary five-year long-term-residence clock. The scheme page itself is silent on permanent residence.

It does speak to tax. If you reside in the Republic for one or more periods that in total exceed 183 days in the same tax year, you are considered a tax resident of Cyprus provided you are not a tax resident in any other country. That is the department’s sentence, not a second test invented here.

“In 2026” on the calendar

The Cyprus Inform piece recirculating on 6 October 2026 frames this as the island’s digital nomad visa in 2026. The Migration Department page that takes the applications already prints the definition, the €3,500 net bar, the 500-permit ceiling, the Nicosia filing route, the fees and the 1+2 duration. The novelty is in the secondary headline, not in whether you can apply.

If a mission or the Nicosia counter is applying a different income reading than the department page prints, that is still their practice until Migration rewrites the sheet. If you see an official notice we have missed, tell us.

Everything above is taken from the Migration Department’s Digital nomads and family members page, checked on 6 October 2026.

The row behind this

Every figure this post relies on lives on a country page with its source and its confidence grade beside it. That is where it gets corrected, and where it stays current after the post stops being news.
