Croatia's nomad stay is open. You can apply
getgoldenvisa.com recirculated a 'Croatia Digital Nomad Visa 2026' requirements guide. The Ministry of the Interior page that takes the applications is not a launch notice. Temporary stay for digital nomads is open, and the money test on that page is the one that counts.
What Interior publishes
The Ministry of the Interior keeps one English page for this status: Temporary stay of digital nomads. It defines who counts as a digital nomad, what to file, where to file, how long the stay runs, and the means-of-subsistence test. You can submit the application online. The Croatia page already marks the programme active.
This is not an announcement of a visa to come. It is the ministry’s own instructions for a permit that already exists.
Who the page says may apply
A digital nomad, in MUP’s wording, is a third-country national — not an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen — who is employed or works through communication technology for a company, or their own company, that is not registered in Croatia and does not perform work or provide services to employers in Croatia.
Close family members, including some unmarried partners under the family-reunification rules the page points to, may join once the digital nomad has been granted temporary stay. Applications from family filed before that grant are rejected.
The money test MUP prints
The bar is a multiple, not a figure invented by a guide. Pursuant to the Regulation on the manner of calculating and the amount of means of subsistence for third-country nationals (Official Gazette no. 14/21 and 3/26), digital nomads must show at least 2.5 average monthly net salaries paid for the previous year, from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics. That amount rises by 10% of the average monthly net salary for each additional family member or life partner.
MUP then prints the current conversion of that rule:
- €3,622.50 a month, shown as regular income on a bank statement or as payslips for at least the last six months; or
- a lump sum already in the account — €43,470 for a planned 12-month stay, €65,205 for 18 months.
Those euro amounts are the ministry’s. The formula is what moves when the statistics bureau publishes a new average; that is the same mechanism the income-bar post walks through for Croatia and fourteen other live programmes. The Croatia page converts the current bar into your currency.
How long it lasts, and the gap
Temporary stay is granted for up to eighteen months. If the first grant is shorter, you may apply to extend it no later than 60 days before it expires; that extension is for a maximum of six months. A new digital-nomad application can be submitted only six months after the previous temporary stay (for digital nomads, family reunification, or life partnership with the digital nomad) has expired.
That clock is why the Croatia page grades the permanent-residence pathway No: five years of continuous temporary residence is the ordinary long-term route, and an 18-month cap with a forced gap cannot get you there on this permit alone.
Where you file
MUP says you can apply online; the file goes to the police administration or station for the place you intend to stay. You can also apply in person, and the route depends on whether you need a visa to enter Croatia:
- Visa-required nationals file at a Croatian diplomatic mission or consular office (and, after approval, obtain a long-stay D visa unless they already hold a valid biometric residence permit or long-stay D visa from another Member State). A visa-required applicant who files at a police administration or station inside Croatia has the application rejected.
- Visa-free nationals may file at a mission or, if already legally in Croatia, at the competent police administration or station for the intended address.
Documents go in Croatian or English. The page’s own list includes a valid travel document, health insurance covering Croatia, proof of remote work purpose, proof of means, a legalised criminal-record certificate from the home country or a country of long residence, and an address of stay or intended stay in Croatia.
“2026 requirements” on the calendar
The getgoldenvisa.com piece recirculating on 4 October 2026 frames this as a 2026 requirements-and-application guide. The ministry page that takes the applications already prints the definition, the document list, the online route, the 18-month cap and the €3,622.50 figure. The novelty is in the secondary headline, not in whether you can apply.
If a mission or police administration is applying a different multiple or a different euro conversion than the MUP page prints, that is still their practice until Interior rewrites the sheet. If you see an official notice we have missed, tell us.
Everything above is taken from the Ministry of the Interior’s Temporary stay of digital nomads page, checked on 4 October 2026.
The row behind this
Every figure this post relies on lives on a country page with its source and its confidence grade beside it. That is where it gets corrected, and where it stays current after the post stops being news.
